Environment Artist
(Junior, Mid, Senior, or Principal)
Permanent, UK Based, Remote
We're developing a playful, physics-based game, and are looking for an Environment Artist to join the team.
We are considering applications from all levels of experience, provided that you have demonstrable skills in this field - whether you have professional experience in the games industry, or if you have a portfolio from university or personal projects.
What you’ll be doing:
Building upon designer grey-boxes and developing their composition, theming and storytelling, to help bring the game to life.
Developing inspiring and imaginative worlds, locations and props.
Taking responsibility for whole levels (or sections), including architectural and organic elements, and key gameplay assets.
Collaborating closely with design to ensure the art is complementary to the gameplay, and that design work is visually elevated.
Creating meshes, materials and textures, and implementing these in the game engine.
Developing quick proof-of-concepts, which can then be iterated and polished.
Finding reference to validate ideas.
Upholding and contributing to the overall art direction and vision for the game.
Transforming high-level creative direction into inspiring and functional levels, with and without concept.
Exploring a wide range of ideas and thematic directions, which are still cohesive within the overall style.
Collaborating closely with the team to problem solve through creativity.
Working closely with other artists to drive the game forward.
Proactively contributing ideas and feedback to help us develop a great player experience.
Playtesting the game, providing constructive feedback and fixing bugs.
You have:
Strong 3D environment art skills, preferably in Maya (but 3ds Max and Blender considered).
Strong texturing and material development skills.
A vivid imagination and a creative spark, with the desire to suggest and proactively contribute ideas.
Hands-on in-engine implementation skills, with the knowledge and confidence to work independently in Unity.
A determination to push the quality and drive forward the game vision.
A love of characterful games and IPs, which convey strong themes and personality.
A positive attitude to receiving feedback, with strong problem solving skills and logical thinking.
Experience of UV unwrapping for Unity’s lightmap system.
Ideally similar experience on a shipped PC or Console game, (but we are open to personal projects).
Comfortable working with version control and have done so before (preferably Git).
Some knowledge of how to create appealing and optimised lighting in Unity.
Even better if you also have the ability to develop character art.
